WMP10: Library View | More Info does not display album info

Discussion in 'Windows Media Player' started by Richard Morris, Oct 13, 2004.

  1. No matter which online store is specified from those provided in the UK
version, in Library view, the More Info option only displays Top Tracks from,
say MSN Music UK and no "More Info" about the track/album selected.

    {sigh}

    I really wish I hadn't "updated" [sic]

  2. Same problem for Australian users. See
    http://msmvps.com/thinice/archive/2004/10/13.aspx for work-around
    suggestions.

  3. Thanks. I tried Control Panel | Regional and Language Options | Location to
    set it to New Zealand.

Fired up the PC again and loaded WMP10 and it's still showing the UK music
    stores.

  4. You didn't read the post properly then. It's not the location that needs
to be set, but the Input Locale. WMP have programmed the player against
the directives of the Windows globalziation team's prescriptions for use
    of these parameters.

  5. OK, I have no idea what you mean by "Input Locale".

I am on XP Pro SP2 and have now gone to Control Panel | Regional and
Language Options | Languages | Text services and input languages; Details...
    | Settings | Add... and added English (New Zealand) with a United Kingdom
    keyboard.

This has made no difference to the MSN Music UK crap being displayed.

  6. The Input Locale is the very first option you see in the Regional and
Language Options, (which is described in the blog entry as the parameter
that sets currency &date formats). It is right above the Location entry
    that you changed initially.

  7. Well that certainly works, although I expect we'll run out of countries to
use as the MSN Music enterprise expands...

    Many thanks, Mike.

Let's just hope Microsoft gives us the option to select
metaservices.windowsmedia.com in future to actually give us "More Info"
    rather than "Sell Me Stuff"...

  8. Drat!

Doing that also messes with Internet Explorer's settings: going to MS'
Knowledgebase takes you to Microsoft's New Zealand support offerings...

  9. Yes. MVPs have been complaining about that for some time - we can't see
the same microsoft.com pages as our US counterparts. You might be able
to work around this by changing your browser's default language. In IE
it's under Tools >Internet Options > General > Languages [button].

IIRC you're in the UK so maybe English(Ireland) might work as a better
alternate for WMP unless it's already been sewn up.
