WMP11 RTM - Cover Art Overwriting User's Own Files !

Discussion in 'Windows Media Player' started by MCE User in the UK, Nov 1, 2006.

  1. Please can we have a fix for Cover Art on WMP 11 RTM?

If a user has their MP3's sorted into folders by each artist/band and they
already have a FOLDER.JPG then MP11 should respect that! Currently when
performing a rescan of library or a new library scan for say an Xbox 360
Media Center Extender Media Player 11 will take random embedded cover art
from a song in the folder and use that meaning that an existing generic
artist picture gets a song specific cover when that "album" is actually a
folder of their singles to date instead of an actual album released.

If you just to a rescan it does not overwrite your FOLDER.JPG but you have
to go into the local cover art cache after the scanning and delete all the
contents. Media Player 11 will then use your folder.jpg's as in Mp10 !

Its game over though, if you are a new user performing a library scan (user
setting to turn off download from internet and in case of xbox 360, you cant
login as MCX1 et al to change the setting!). If its a NEW library scan, you
cover art for the album view gets trashed. Grrrrrrrr!

I reported this to various program managers but the bugs go through to RTM
    and Vista versions.

Please can a GLOBAL hotfix be produced that says

    IF Folder.jpg exists Then
' Dont overwrite cover art just add files to library db
    else
    ' generate cover art!
    end if

  2. Yes I raised these matters in the Vista beta, but it's all by design on
their side, regardless of the destruction of user files.

  3. I absolutely agree... I'd recently upgraded to WMP11, then last weekend
Installed WME extender & connected my new Xbox 360....Wam!!!....975 MP3
albums with cover art trashed (ie black)- spend three evenings sorting this
out but now in most cases when a song plays in WME the cover art is black,
even though in WMP11, and the WME album browser the album art displays OK!!!
