    Hi there,

I'm playing around with WSS and i'm trying to modify the out lay. I'd like
to modify the quick launch section .. deleting that part and adding my own
quick launch links. Is that possible? I have read it should be possible with
Front page(dont know how though) but then there is a chance that a new patch
could ruin all the modifications. Any comment on that? Or should i just
create a new top level site and start from scratch?
    Thanks,

    raymond

  2. HI Raymond,

    Welcome to our SBS newsgroup.

    Issue description:

From your description, I understand that you want to edit the quick lunch
area on the companyweb home pages and you know the changes will be restored
if you apply the new patches. So you want to know, is there any better
    choices for this issue.

    Analyzing:

It seems you want to change the default homepage of companyweb, we can edit
it through Frontpage or some other web design tools. If you only want to
add new link to quick lunch area, we suggest you just use "Modify shared
pages" function on companyweb, it will help you change the quick lunch
area. If you want to changes the page design, you might use the tools such
as front pages to achieve this goal. It might relate web design, by default
the page will be changed if new patches have been applied to companyweb.
But if you use the "modify shared pages", the changes will be saved with or
    without new patches.

    Suggestion:

For your issue, I have some suggestions:

    1. You can change the default home pages of companyweb via web design
tools. However the changes might be restored when apply some new patches.
    2. You can also create a new website under the WSS, it might be good idea
if you want to create a personal website for internal use, this will not be
changed during the updates of SBS 2003. Make sure that you use a different
host header for this website, so that you can access the new websites
internal via host header. If you want to access the website externally, you
might have to open a new port for this websites. You can refer to following
KB articles for creating a IIS website:

we will configure the companyweb setting on IIS via CEICW wizard.
