I've installed wsus (open evaluation from ms site) on win2003. I want to
    know the following :

    a) i set the options to download only win2003 and xp family, ciritcal
updates/security updates and english language only. However i still receive
    other non-english updates. Pls advise

    b) When i synchronise with the internet, is there a xml file i can download
(like mbsa) or instead of looking every old patches eg only patches for xp
    sp2 onwards ?

  2. Open Evaluation? They just released the RTM this week.

Anyway, did you note the metadata (Languages supported, lower pane) for each
update? For example, there are some .NET updates that appear to be foreign
in nature, but apply to the English products.

As for running MBSA, you can run MBSA 2.0 (beta) on your XP SP2 machines -
but instead of comparing to Windows Update, you can point it at your WSUS
server and it will compare that device with what you've approved in WSUS.
Otherwise the closest you'll get would be to get creative with the Updates -
filter for XP, for example. Also, if you have a computer running XP SP2,
you can go to the Status of Computer report and run a report for Needed -
that will obviously only tell you which updates that computer needs (post-XP
SP2). The older updates would not be classified as needed.
