I have installed WSUS on Win2003 Server (with SQL server support).
Service worked normally during a month.

Today I have sotpped it with command: net stop "Update Services"
    Ok. WSUS was stopped.

But I cannot start WSUS again with commands: net start "Update Services"
or "sc start WSUSservice" and from Services.mmc.

    The error:
    System error 193 has occured:
    *** is not a valid Win32 application.

In the System Events Log: event ID is 7000
The Update Services service failed to start due to the following error:
Update Services is not a valid Win32 application.

The question: How can I stop/start WSUSservices from batch file?
(I need it for backup program to work correctly).

You can also use the long name if it is in quotes. "Update Service" is
equivalent to WSUSService and is the one returned by NET START when listing the
    running services.

  4. Except that... apparently.... Buba was unable to restart the service using
    the longname.

The question was how to restart from a batch file, and the better way to do
that is with the short name.

However, taking a second look at the post, and addressing the /problem/
    rather than the /question/ .... <g>

    Given this error:
It looks like something got corrupted in the WSUS installation between the
time Buba turned off the service and the time he tried to restart it.

My next follow-up question would be:
    WHY was the service stopped???

WHAT was done to the machine between the time the service was
successfully stopped and the service was unsuccessfully attempted to be
