XP Critical Updates - downloads, but freezes/not installs

Discussion in 'Windows Update' started by Rich Geissinger, Sep 12, 2003.

  1. System: IBM NetVista A22P
Windows XP - Home Edition - preloaded

Problem: Windowsupdate.com provides the scan and
download functions for my system... but freezes after
the 'download process' is completed... the 'install
process' never proceeds (WEB Page Dialog box). Hence, it
doesn't get installed... have tried time after time.

Conclusion: I can not successfully update any
critical/non critical Windows updates to my system.

My ISP is AOL... but if this is the problem, many others
    have the same problem.

Since I have had the same problem in attempting previous
updates, obviously my current system software does not
    support the update regime.

If anyone else has had a similar problem and resolved it,
    please e-mail me. Thanks.

  2. After signing on to AOL click the Start button then click the Windows Update
Icon. This will start Windows Update using the version of Internet Explorer
that comes with the operating system. If you do not have the Windows Update
Icon, run Internet Explorer and select Tools->Windows Update.
