XP Install forever

Discussion in 'Virtual PC' started by Andre Da Costa, Apr 5, 2005.

  1. Hello,

I am installing Windows XP in Virtual PC 2004 with an allocated amount of
185Mbs of RAM out of 512, but I notice when I switch Windows to do a
separate task, XP does not move until I switch back to Virtual PC window.

For instance, its is now at Finalizing installation - 9 minutes left. When I
switch to do some else and come go back to the Virtual XP installation in
about 2 to 3 minutes it still says "Finalizing installation - 9 minutes
left" and then starts to slowly move, what could be wrong here? Its almost
VPC 2004 is sensing what I'm doing, like it wants my constant attention and
    affection.

Yes, VPC wants your "constant attention and affection" (lol), but it will
become more self-reliant and less needy if you make sure the "Run Virtual PC
at maximum speed" option is ticked in the "Performance" section of the
options. Also remember that installation of an OS in a Guest is the slowest
operation you'll likely encounter, because performance will nearly always
improve when you install the Additions after the OS is fully installed.
    Cheers, Andre.

  3. Thanks Gary. ;-) It installed perfectly anyway.
