    During backup of the registry, the following error occurs:

    Service Pack 2 Setup could not backup registry key
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP to file
    C:\WINDOWS\$NtServicePackUninstall$\reg00244.
    1450: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested service.

    Is the issue with the key or the backup file? What is the fix?

    Hi;

    Close all other programs, to include any non-standard background tasks.
    Especially look for any 3rd party programs running that are doing Registry
    protection or monitoring (some Norton programs, etc.) or any that do
    "uninstall helper" functions. Clean out the default Temp and Tmp folders.
    Turn off your anti-virus programs file-check/protection option while SP2
    installs. Verify that you have an adequate Pagefile; if not sure use the
    "Let Windows decide" method, at least while installing this.

    If none of the above helps, how much RAM do you have installed? What is the
    size of your hard drive, and how much free space do you have on it?
