Does anyone know why XP with SP2 slipstreamed installs REALLY slowly?
I did a test yesterday and XP with SP1a slipstreamed installs in 40
minutes whereas XP with SP2 slipstream installs in around 2 hours.

Host PC spec is 2.66 Ghz P4 with 1GB RAM.

VMware installs XP with SP2 the same speed as XP SP1a (around 45
    minutes).

  2. Are you using VPC 2004 SP1?
Have you set the VM to run at full speed?

I installed VPC using the MSDN version of "Virtual PC with Service
Pack 1" and it defaults to the setting of running VMs at full speed :(

Yes, I tried it too on a 2.8 P4 with 1 Gig and it is really slow. Even
the copying of the files is pathetic. Very odd.

Yeah the copying of files takes a life time. Normally the text bit of
the install is abou 10-15 minutes of the total install time but on an
SP2 install it is at least 35 minutes!
