  2. Windows Messenger:

Good if you want to only just send text.

    Windows Live Messenger:
    a.. PC-to-PC Calling
    b.. Even better video conversations
    c.. Sharing Folders
    d.. Text message their phones
    e.. Your two-way, super-powered address book
    f.. Windows LiveT Alerts
g.. Soon: Talk to your Yahoo! friends, too

  3. Hi,

I'd like to disagree you on some of these.

Windows Messenger's PC to PC functionality uses exactly the same codecs and RTC (Real-Time
Communication) APIs as Windows Live Messenger does. To be fair, it's an updated version of
RTC /w better connectivity but fundamentally is the same thing.

Video is better in Windows Live Messenger true.

Sharing Folders, iffy -- file transfer works fine in Windows Messenger when properly setup.

You can text message phones in Windows Messenger with the correct 4.x version (to be
specific, 4.7.2009) as long as they've been setup for MSN Mobile.

Windows Live Alerts work in Windows Messenger exactly the same as they do in Windows Live
    Messenger.

So, really, a lot of this is just marketing and UI. I know a number of die-hard Windows
Messenger users which like it's low memory usage, quick speeds and more "enterprise" feel as
opposed to the rather consumer oriented WLM/MSN client.

Although I think the OP was referring to Windows Live Messenger anyway ;)

  4. I disagree with this as well

Everything in Windows Messenger is in Windows Live Messenger with improved
    functionality

Everything you can do with Windows Messenger you can do with Windows Live
    Messenger.

One thing ive noticed is that the Messenger service has been removed from
Windows Vista Beta 2. Messenger is not included in Vista.

Windows Messenger seems to be out of development, and Windows Live Messenger
will be the main IM client of Microsoft Corporation.

  5. Yes, the Windows Messenger team was disbanded about two years ago.

  6. well its because they got nipped for intergrating windows media player, and
windows messenger into windows xp.. From now on they cant include these
services because for some reason its an unfair advantage for other
    competitors.
    weird.

  7. Hi,

Actually the team moved to Office Communicator -- using that logic, the Windows Media Player
team should be gone as well.
